WORKING TIME AND STRESS - 
'Long working hours can cause fatigue and stress and make you more
prone to errors, accidents and ill-health.' This will be prevented by working for 'no longer than 12 hours a day' with both long and short breaks, staff are entitled to '11 hours of breaks a day and 35 hours a week.' This way none of the staff will be harmed or fatigued and will continue to produce good quality work, throughout the 'average 48 hour working week.' Staff should rest every hour and a half or 2 hours to ensure everyone has food and is comfortable working.

LONE WORKING- 
'You may find yourself working alone or travelling alone. Lone workers, especially women, may be vulnerable to unwelcome advances from petty harassment to physical assault.' To avoid workers working alone, staff should always work with at least five others at a time and should plan ahead with personal security and this will mean they are prepared for the time when they are isolated and no one will be harmed or possibly end up dead. There should be good communication between everyone, thus there should be good signal at all points across the site so there is fast contact available if needed. We are working in groups for the SFX unit so it will be rare to be working alone but it is still a good idea to know personal security in case it is breached and you wouldn't know how to react. If working in the professional industry, it would be advised that you carry a form of protection or are aware of how to react

ELECTRICITY- 
'Electricity can kill and cause fires and explosions.' To prevent this from happening, make sure all electrical appliances have been tested and covered with the appropriate casing. Make sure staff don't use the appliances with wet hands, or around water. This way, staff are safe, as long as the equipment has been checked by competent people. We will be using cameras and lighting in our work so it is important that they have been checked and tested by the technician and are suitably protected.

COMPUTERS AND DISPLAY SCREEN EQUIPMENT- 
'The risks can be serious and can lead to the development of extremely painful work-related upper limb disorders (commonly known as RSI) and a range of hand/arm disorders. These can be seriously and sometimes permanently disabling. Some conditions (such as tenosynovitis and carpal tunnel syndrome) are prescribed industrial injuries.' This is caused by many injuries involving electrical equipment like the computers that are used and also unsuitable work surfaces and seating. This can easily be sorted by allowing staff to choose which laptop and type of seating is suitable for them and if not, they should be given breaks before any harm is done.

Camera Units:

NOISE- 
'At noise levels at/or above 90 dB(A) over eight hours or very loud
noises (eg, explosions) over 140 dB,' this level of sound can harm ears and cause injury, thus workers should be given ear protection muffs and must wear them for safety, otherwise they can be taken off the job for not following health and safety. The distribution of ear protection should be well planned to ensure everyone is safe and everyone should be warned at least a day before filming, that there will be a scene involving loud noise. This wouldn't apply to the SFX unit film sequence, as there is no high levels of noise except from a scream, which wouldn't reach above 90dB or 140dB

LIGHTING- 
Bulbs are liable to shatter and over heat during use and could harm the camera unit and others around if not treated quickly and correctly. The correct way to control shattered bulbs is to have aperture wire, mesh guard or grills and it is suggested to 'keep hot lamps away from combustible materials', this information is important for us in the SFX unit since there are bar lights inside the location and we may use additional lighting which doesn't have the protective guards. I will make sure to keep the flammable liquid found on location is kept away form lighting and electrical equipment. It would also be advised to supply glasses to others when using strobe and high lighting, as it can trigger epileptic seizures. To make sure this doesn't happen to our filming SFX team, I will check with others to make sure they are safe around strobe lighting, I will also make sure they have glasses and that they don't look directly at the light.

CAMERAS-
Using a Steadicam can cause back injury if not set up correctly, they should be well balanced and padded so they don't press into the operator. To make sure they are set up correctly in the first place, he cameras should only be operated by competent operators, who will completely the job to a high standard. lightweight tripods are at risk of being knocked over and damaged, alongside the camera, to avoid this, add weights to the bottoms of the tripods to make sure they are stable and harder to knock over, if needed they can be secured to the ground. This would be useful information since the school supplies tripods that are lightweight and could be knocked easily on both uneven and even surfaces.

CRANES AND GRIPS EQUIPMENT-
Some grips supplied could be badly made or damaged, thus they could fall form a height and injure someone, because of this, they should be checked and tested, with evidence of a certificate of inspection and supplied by a reputable company. Workers should be aware that a crane or grip is in use so they don't walk underneath the equipment when in use, unless needed too. to make sure the cranes are stable, a competent crane operator should be with the crane at all times, with support of two grips. To make sure the movement of the hydraulic dollies is smooth and safe, 'locking clamps should be removed before any movement and secured afterwards.' this is relevant to the SFX filming sequence since I won't be using any cranes because of available height and since that equipment isn't supplied by the school, but I will be beside the camera at all times. When using cranes, to avid crashing into buildings and roofs, the height should be measured and the crane shouldn't be able to move higher than the building or location to avoid property damage.

Stage 1

Cleaning the finger that will be used and making sure the equipment is ready for creating the prosthetic. Apply a thin layer of spirit gum around the knuckle and finger to make sure no creases will be visible on the side of the finger.
Using clean water and soap to make sure the finger is well cleaned and there is no way the make up would be contaminated with bacteria from hands. Make sure the actor is comfortable whilst the application is taking place and not allergic to any make up products before using them. Using the brush supplied with the spirit gum to apply the product and not stretching skin before applying since it can cause discomfort. Don't use it near the mouth as it could be harmful if ingested.
Stage 2

Get a ball of modelling putty, with the spatula tool, that is not too big or too small for the actor's knuckle. Then transfer the ball onto the knuckle (over the spirit gum) and start spreading out the putty to make sure it sticks to the finger.
Don't use any particularly sharp tools whilst cutting through the putty, only the plastic spatula tool which is less harmful and makes it easier to get the putty out, make sure the size of the ball of putty isn't too big or small as when cutting through it, if too little, depth could be miscalculated and could hurt the knuckle underneath and too much could put strain on the finger. Don't press to hard on the putty as it could bring pain to the actor since the finger could bend two ways and use a finger rather than the spatula since it could scrape at the skin or could take too long and the actor may start to ache from sitting down for long periods.
Stage 3

Remove any excess putty and press the pad of your finger over the putty to make realistic looking imprints, before applying the translucent powder and skin toned foundation to make it blend in with the skin around it.
Use a finger again to remove excess as a spatula can scrape at more skin, particularly in places where the spirit has dried and isn't covered. Don't blow on the powder as I could blow into a cloud and people nearby may have lung problems or asthma and could inhale the powder. Try to add less foundation to the actual skin as it could stain after being on for a long period of time, aim to apply more to the putty to blend into the skin at the creases.
Stage 4

Carefully cut through the centre of the putty over the original knuckle, with the putty tool. Roughen up the edge of the cut to make it look more realistic and less clean cut. Apply black cream make up with a small brush, in the centre of the cut. Then go over that and up the sides of the cut with a red cream paint and blend the two colours.
Ask the actor constantly to make sure they aren't getting hurt and that they are comfortable whilst the incision is being made, or get them to cut through to make sure they don't hurt themselves. Use a soft brush to make sure that the bristles are gentle and are animal friendly so people know that the production hadn't been at the cost of an animals hair/fur. Make sure the brushes are cleaned when applying two different colours so there is no contamination of the original products.
Stage 5

Lastly, add a final layer of black cream make up to finally blend and then apply the blood gel to the cut, taking it up to the corners. Add some water if needed, to water down the blood and make it easier to spread.
The last step is to use a sponge and add some red and black speckles down the rest of the finger.
Don't apply the make up near the eye as it will most likely cause harm and can cause irritation. The blood will most likely stain clothes, especially when watered down, so make sure it is away from clothing unless necessary and that it isn't close to anything that is edible, as it could be mistaken as a drink or can contaminate a drink. Use a soft sponge as a wire sponge can damage the prosthetic and the make up product. It can also scratch at skin if used roughly.

h) FILMING PEOPLE
Filming people may be a problem because they may have not given their permission for you to capture them on film and they can bring up problems with you or the company linked to you. filming another person could be classed as defaming if the footage lowers their reputation, filmmakers should not manipulate images of people as it can take the problems further. To avoid problems with filming people, you should follow the Ofcom code, which states that it is acceptable for broadcasters and filmmakers to film in a public place in a general manner providing it is brief and incidental footage which does not focus on individuals engaged in private or personal matters. Another way to avoid problems is to obtain written consent from as many people shown in the footage as possible which can be in a simple form stating that the person gives consent. You will also need to get consent from the parents or guardians of any children shown in the footage.

This won't be much of a problem for me since we will be using other students (e.g Alex who is the actor of the group)who would have given consent to be in the film and we will be filming in places that are quiet rather than in a busy place filled with students. We will also be filming in a small building which will mean the footage is focused on one person and will not capture others in the background.

FILMING BUILDINGS
Filming buildings will become a problem if there is no permission to film on the premises such as on private land, which the garage and school would be classed as. There may be problems with copyright if a recreation of the building is produced and the architect has not been dead for at least 70 years. Any logos and trademarks on the building may not have been given consent to be featured in the footage too. A building may also represent an individual or institution, even without trademarks or logos, so it should not be used in marketing or promotions and should be filmed with caution.

Though, it will not be a problem for our group since we have permission to use the garage (which is within school grounds) and school grounds itself which is the institution we are under and we have consent to interact with the buildings, without worrying about copyright

Sketch of proposed special effect:
This sketch was created to plan what the final prosthetic was going to look like. There is an above view and a side view so there is an idea of how deep the cut would look and how wide it would be over the knuckle. There is also the main material that works for this prosthetic, modeling wax,  since a solid base material is needed.
